Two arrivals this week.... Uncle ron warmly smiled when his eyes caressed the liquid sunshine that arrived ... Don and Donas were in Barbados and the British Virgin Islands. The first to arrive was Arundel 10 Year Cane Rum from The Callwood Distillery in Cane Garden Bay, BVI VIA sailboat, airboat and ashphalt boat. A review by our sailing freinds Roger and Dave's Rum Reviews. This was followed by Mount Gay Rum: Eclipse Black. The story is, when asked the cab driver would say "Mount Gay Extra Old... but you should try Eclipse Black"... So we will. here is a review by the Rum Howler and some interesting opinions from Capn Jimbo's Rum Project.
Don't forget that transport is needed for liquid sunshine from the Victoria, Edmonton, Calgary and Boston campus'.

Thanks kindly for the link to our/The Rum Project. Surprisingly this was a link to one of our old reviews on Eclipse. Actually, we just did a pre-review on the new Eclipse Black. Black is one of the few new releases that is worth your while.
ReplyDeleteWhile the other biggies are coming up with ever more clever ways to add sugar and artificial flavors to thin column-stilled rum, Mount Gay - following the lead of single malt whiskies - has blended a fine dark rum based largely on pot stilled rums, and bottled at a near cask strength of 100 proof.
This is a classic rum, made in a classic style, bold, dark and extremely flavorful. At just $19 for a full liter, do not hesitate to buy one. It is very sippable, just be sure - again, like a good single malt, to add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of water once you've had your initial nosing and sip, to release ever more flavours and aromas.
