This One Could Win The Travel Prize
Don Ron/Ronas have hand delivered all the way from Chile course topic: Ron Anejo Mitjans . There does not seem to be a review out there on this one but the lable says "A deep, smooth, full bodied golden Rum with complex aromas of coconut, vanilla and toffee. Full balance with a long and soft finish. In lack of a peer review the dons and donas in this video seem to be enjoying it.

Uncle Ron's Academy Supports Los Primos ..........
Uncle Ron's Academy loves the music and people( and rum) of Cuba... So one of the things Uncle Ron does is support The Los Primos Project. At Uncle Ron's Night in April, 2010 the Academy raised $1000 for Los Primos.
Below is a picture of the Presentation to Los Primos at Stayners Wharf during Jeff Goodspeed's Sunday music session known as 5 to 9 ( that's the opposite to 9 to 5).
Don Rons Roger and Jerry present to Don Ron Jeff a Cheque for $1000 to Los Primos... Hanafax Members , Lost Primos and Uncle Ron Academy's members Jorge Chicoy and Avi Garcia are taking it all in...

The Results are in!!!!!!!
The Academy has been waiting.... it's almost like having a second Christmas.. What are the scores???? Well here they are on the Uncle Ron's Night Scoring Page. There are some neat groupings... the majority of last year's favorites are still on top with the odd flip flop and new break throughs. A few are in a different place but where they are is intrigue's spirit. Sailor Jerry is with The Kraken... as they say in Herring Cove "proper thing". Cruzan Black Strap is rocking. It's fun to see where the Cuban rums are and which ones are nearby..... there will have to be faculty meetings to further discuss agenda items like: How is it that Zaya and Pyrat have politicized (flip flopped). Is there someting in a name: #1 is the Legend!!!! As they say in Wolfville "Why wouldn't it"( thanks Dave and Kay).

Uncle Ron's 2010 Reads and Tunes Awards.
Uncle Ron has many favorites books and cd’s. While some thinks them old technologies nothing beats holding a book in a comfy chair or hammock after just selecting a cd (they are shaped like a vinyl LP). Whether with with other friends like Myers, Cruzan, Zaya or not reads and tunes are nice. This year The Uncle Ron’s Reads and Tunes awards went to Harry Bruce (Page Fright: Foibles and Fetishes of Famous Writers) and Hot Toddy. Check out the Uncle Ron’s Reads and Tunes page for details...
Above is Tom Easley and Harry Bruce pre award.

Cuba CeltFest April 6th to 14th, 2010
CeltFest in Cuba
Some of Uncle Ron’s Faculty members will be enjoying and helping at the upcoming CeltFest taking place in Cuba next week. Keep posted for how you can live vicariously though our Don and Dona Rons while they broadcast events/concerts during and after they happen.

There are Maritimers taking part including Andrea Beaton, Mary Jane Lamond, Tim Chaisson, Ward MacDonald. Not only that but Havana's Galician Pipe Band, Banda de Gaitas de la Sociedad Agrupación Artística Gallega are a big part of the CeltFest. In 2008 they were featured at Celtic Colours and have been hosted by Uncle Ron’s Academy...
Members of Havana's Galician Pipe Band, Banda de Gaitas de la Sociedad Agrupación Artística Gallega with Don Rons Jeff and Art and an Irish guy from New Hampshire.
Pre-Event in Jibacoa
It’s a tough job, but one of our Dona Rons faculty is organizing a pre-event specifically to taste the Cuban rums some of which will be featured at Uncle Ron’s Night. 8 compañeros/compañeras trusted rumologists have been enrolled and hope to provide tasting notes on the following offerings:
- Havana Club, Añejo Reserva
- Santiago Añejo
- Bucanero Añejo Reserva
- Cubay Añejo
- Legendario Añejo 9 años
- Mulata Añejo 7 años
With the kind collaboration of one of Uncle Ron’s favorite conference sites (Cameleon Villas Jibacoa) the resort management will feature this arduous undertaking on their beachfront terrace, probably on the evening of April 12.

Tres rones han llegado
Tres rones han llegado... Yes the latest are in... One arrived from the Cloud Nine store in the Calgary Airport and two were hand delivered from Mexico... From Calgary comes Elements Eight... and From Mexico come two Mexico produced Barcardi Rums: Anejo and Superior. We can't seem to find a review on Elements Eight.. any suggestions?
The Academy should mention here that Rum’s (and sugar cane) history is really quite a study in everything from celebrations, family genealogy, industry and export growth to revolutions and war. It even gives Uncle Ron a moment’s pause. You see much of the Academy is about Cuba in vacations, social causes, support and citizenship. So what does the Academy do when Los Primos is one of the charities it’s supports and Barcardi is one of the Rums donated to be enjoyed at Uncle Ron’s Night? Give this history of Cuban Rum a read as it touches on many things... If somebody could find more writings on rum, Cuba, history the Academy would love to post it. Sounds like a good reason for an Academy agenda item?
Keep posted as the Cuban Rums are ready to pour in..... and we would welcome suggestions on additional local procurement, El Dorado, Flor de Cana, Cruzan? What you like???

Arrivals just before the Vernal Equinox
Uncle Ron is pretty happy (understatement) with the latest arrivals for Uncle Ron’s night. Some never before hosted rhumppellations .... and one faithful standby one cannot find any longer at Nova Scotia points of sale.
Let’s see what we have...
You’ve asked for it you got it.... Myres Rum Original Dark. Here is the BligeMunky review.
Last year Uruguay’s Espinillar Reservado Extra Anejo did not survive the trip... It is an awful feeling opening the luggage and wondering how to get the rum soak out of the clothes. This year it has arrived in one piece and now competes for the “travel prize” with Mauritius' Flamboyant Oak Aged Rum
Before we tell you about the next three new guests we must tell you about three new friends of Uncle Ron.... First the efficiently knowledgeable and eager to please Concierge at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston. They were asked: Where can we find a store with good rum?... So first we were sent to Boston’s Intercontential where they have the Rumba.. A marvelous Rum and Champagne bar (the menu). The staff went above and beyond with a marvelous tasting. The 2nd stop was the very finest Bauer Wine and Spirits on Newbury. Howie and Dave’s friendly service sourced us these three:
The Kraken... Academy members first had this in their hands in San Deigo... but after the sample at the Rumba we think it could take on Sailor Jerry... Here is The Examiner’s review....
In 2008 the first Martinique rums we had were not really sipping rums..... But this is most wonderful: Depaz Blue Cane Rhum Agricole... The Rumdood’s review.
And hey who would have known Massachusetts has a distillery that does Rum ... in fact it’s called Ragged Mountain Rum. The Rumdaddy’s review.. It should not be a surprise they like rum in Boston....
One other thing with the Depaz Blue Cane came a bottle of Depaz Cane Syrup... any recipe ideas are encouraged......
