What is Uncle Ron's Academy?

Uncle Ron’s Academy is a happy dynamically fluid crew who gather in various sized groups, committees, gatherings, celebrations enjoying visits with or just hanging around Uncle Ron.

Who is Uncle Ron? Uncle Ron is a "spirit". However, the Academy should say that it was a "aha" sort or moment when we realized that the "Ron" in Ron Carioca or Ron Zacapa Centenario was not a primero nombre but Rum! So when we gather it’s more of a family adventure valuing all those great things like life, love, learning. It is more than a night out on the town... So, we are Uncle Ron’s Academy....

This blog spot will feature all sorts of things like rum, music, feasts, literature, dancing, links to other rum sites, events, adventurers and one of the great causes we support: Los Primos Project

Upcoming Happenings

Havana Nights Dance

They seem to arrive in three's

Trinidad is Uncle Ron’s friend. This is good because Trinidad get’s around. Dona Rona Sue was visiting Trinidad and found two rum’s from nearby neighbours Guyana and Venezuela. And Don and Dona Ron Sean and Jen were in Cuba and brought back a little sun for us all....... So visiting with Uncle Ron are new guests R’Aguiar’s XM 5YO Demerara Rum( A review by Liquorature) and Diplomatioco’s Reserva Exclusiva ( reviews by Scottesrum and the Rum Dood). And for the 2nd year in a row, in 2009 in the top 12 all the way from Cuba... Ron Solera Mulata. Reviews by therumelier and a little blurb here.

Cuba CeltFest April 6th to 14th, 2010

CeltFest in Cuba

Some of Uncle Ron’s Faculty members will be enjoying and helping at the upcoming CeltFest taking place in Cuba next week. Keep posted for how you can live vicariously though our Don and Dona Rons while they broadcast events/concerts during and after they happen.

There are Maritimers taking part including Andrea Beaton, Mary Jane Lamond, Tim Chaisson, Ward MacDonald. Not only that but Havana's Galician Pipe Band, Banda de Gaitas de la Sociedad Agrupación Artística Gallega are a big part of the CeltFest. In 2008 they were featured at Celtic Colours and have been hosted by Uncle Ron’s Academy...

Pre-Event in Jibacoa

It’s a tough job, but one of our Dona Rons faculty is organizing a pre-event specifically to taste the Cuban rums some of which will be featured at Uncle Ron’s Night. 8 compañeros/compañeras trusted rumologists have been enrolled and hope to provide tasting notes on the following offerings:

- Havana Club, Añejo Reserva
- Santiago Añejo
- Bucanero Añejo Reserva
- Cubay Añejo
- Legendario Añejo 9 años
- Mulata Añejo 7 años

With the kind collaboration of one of Uncle Ron’s favorite conference sites (Cameleon Villas Jibacoa) the resort management will feature this arduous undertaking on their beachfront terrace, probably on the evening of April 12.

Tres rones han llegado

Tres rones han llegado... Yes the latest are in... One arrived from the Cloud Nine store in the Calgary Airport and two were hand delivered from Mexico... From Calgary comes Elements Eight... and From Mexico come two Mexico produced Barcardi Rums: Anejo and Superior. We can't seem to find a review on Elements Eight.. any suggestions?

The Academy should mention here that Rum’s (and sugar cane) history is really quite a study in everything from celebrations, family genealogy, industry and export growth to revolutions and war. It even gives Uncle Ron a moment’s pause. You see much of the Academy is about Cuba in vacations, social causes, support and citizenship. So what does the Academy do when Los Primos is one of the charities it’s supports and Barcardi is one of the Rums donated to be enjoyed at Uncle Ron’s Night? Give this history of Cuban Rum a read as it touches on many things... If somebody could find more writings on rum, Cuba, history the Academy would love to post it. Sounds like a good reason for an Academy agenda item?

Keep posted as the Cuban Rums are ready to pour in..... and we would welcome suggestions on additional local procurement, El Dorado, Flor de Cana, Cruzan? What you like???
